Article marketing tips

One of my favorite strategies of making money online is by article marketing. The basic idea is to write an article, include a resource box with a link to your blog or affiliate link and opt-in page and then submit it to some of the popular article directories.

You’ll get some traffic directly from those sites, but the real purpose behind this strategy is to allow other webmasters and bloggers to find your article and publish it on their sites. Whenever that happens, you’ll see a nice increase in traffic to your blog and a boost in subscribers.

What Should I Write About?

That’s a question I hear quite a bit. You want to write articles that are closely related to your blog. You also want to be very specific in each article. Think about some of the problems and issues your readers are facing… those are the types of topics you want to write about. As your site becomes more popular, this will get easier because your readers will tell you what they want to learn more about. For now, think back to some of the questions you had when just starting out.

Another option is to visit popular forums and look for questions that are asked. You can also browse some of the article directories and look what other people have written about in the category that best relates to your blog.

Once you have your topic, write a helpful article of about 400 to 500 words. Answer the question you started out with or simply share 5 to 7 tips on a topic. Most forums will allow you to place a signature in our profile; you always place a link here.

Don’t forget to spend some time crafting your author resource box. This is where you’ll lead readers from the article page back to your blog. I like to include two links. The first goes directly to the home page of my blog, the second to my opt-in page to get readers on my list.

Where Should I Submit My Articles?

Now that you’ve written your article, it’s time to submit it to some of the popular article directories. Below you’ll find a short list of directories I like to use. This is by no means a complete list. As you get more comfortable with article marketing, you’ll find other directories, but this is a good starting point.

• Ezinearticles.com
• ArticleBase.com
• GoArticles.com
• Isnare.com
• IdeaMarketer.com
• ArticleSnatch.com

How Many Should I Write?

If you’re just starting out, a good goal may be to write and submit one article per week. That’s enough to get a small trickle of traffic to your site. Of course more is always better (provided the quality of your articles doesn’t suffer). If you can manage three articles per week, great! If you’re really ambitious you may even write one per day. I don’t recommend aiming for more than that or you’ll quickly get burned out.

Article marketing is all about consistent effort. Find a number you’re comfortable with and then make sure that come hell or high water you’re getting those articles written and submitted.

How to get subscribers fast

Let me share the big secret to building a list with you. It’s all about figuring out how to get your first 100 subscribers. Once you’ve learned that, you can simply do more of what you’re already doing to build your list faster. I’ll share three simple strategies with you that you can use to build your list. Best of all, all three of them are free and won’t take you long to implement. Let’s get started.

Blog Commenting

One of the easiest ways to get traffic and subscribers to your list is to comment on other popular blogs. Find about 10 of them and visit them several times a week. When appropriate, leave a great comment. Don’t just write “Great post, enjoyed reading it.” Instead, add to the conversation and share something of value.

This will encourage readers to click on your name and click through to your blog to learn more about you. From there you can start to get them on your list by having a signup box in the sidebar of your blog.

Forum Participation

Find 3 to 5 active forums in your niche and start participating. The important thing is to find forums that get quite a few new posts per day. They are the ones that get a fair amount of traffic and have a loyal readership. Look through posts and make sure there are at least 10 or so from today before you add it to your list of forums to start participating in. Sign up for each of those active forums and spend a few minutes creating a profile that includes a picture, some info about you and most importantly a link back to your blog.

Answer questions and be helpful on the forum. If allowed, include a signature file that invites readers to check out your blog and sign up for your newsletter. I recommend spending 15 to 30 minutes a day on these forums. You should see a few new signups per week from this activity alone. As you start to accumulate more and more posts on these forums and become known as a bit of an expert in your field, you’ll see signup percentages increase.

Write an Article

Last but not least, sit down and write a 400 word article on a topic that’s closely related to your blog. Make it helpful and interesting. At the end of your article, you’ll include an author resource box that will link back to your blog.

Submit the article to article directories. You should see a steady little stream of new visitors to your blog and a percentage of those will sign up for your list.

Interview with Allie Rambles – work at home mum

"Allie Rambles"
Allie Rambles
Interview with Allie Rambles, blogger and stay at home mom of Ramblings of a WAHM. Allie has been blogging, learning and earning, sharing and teaching income online since September 2010. You can catch her on her blog.

What is your blog about?
My blog, Ramblings of a WAHM, is documentation of my journey to earn online income.  What I have succeeded and failed at is there for others to learn. You can find out more about my blog here.

When did you start your website?
I started the blog in October 2010.  It feels like yesterday though, time flies.

Why did you start blogging?
My husband bought "The Four Hour Workweek" by Tim Ferriss.  I picked it up one evening and started reading it.  His ideas were so fascinating that I needed to know more.  This is where I discovered the amazing bloggers online that were earning a living and talking about it.  I felt I could do the same thing and started Ramblings of a WAHM.

How often do you update it?
In the beginning I was posting about 2-3 times per week.  But I am working on building a business around what I do online and this takes me away from my blog more.  So now it is about once a week.  But it is always about what I am doing elsewhere on the Internet.

Where do you get the inspiration for your posts?
That is a good question.  Nowadays mostly from what I am doing but there has been times other bloggers inspire me to write something.

What is the single most thing you like about blogging?
The comments, which to me are feedback to how I am performing as a blogger.

Where do you see your blog in the next 2 years?
Funny you ask that, I just put together my first ever business plan and in it I have written projections for the next year but I didn't go further.  The Internet is ever changing and I feel I can't predict how well I will do.

But to answer your question, in 2 years I will still be cranking away at publishing posts about my journey, earning a full time income online and always growing to do and learn more.

What do you do for SEO?
There is so much that all I can do is direct you back to my blog, I have a post about what I do for seo.  But in short I have a handful of keywords I work with to rank on Google as I high I can.  I strategically place the keywords in my posts but still keeping that feel of word fluidity for the reader.  After I publish I will backlink by with social media and blog commenting.

Do you allow guest posts?
Yes I do but I am very picky.  My blog is my baby and I am very protective of her.

Do you have your own products?
No yet, but I plan to.

Do you offer any services, if yes what are they?
This is one arena I don't explore ...yet.  Maybe someday.

Do you have any advice to new bloggers?
Run.  Run as fast as you can.  Blogging will suck the life out of you.  I'm just kidding.  I love blogging.  But it can be very life draining at times.  Be sure to put time limits on your online activities.  Get outdoors.  Get coffee with friends.  Play with your kids.  Go read a book.  Get offline often.

15 high PR blog directories to submit your blog to

Some would say that directory submissions are dead. I am afraid that’s not the case. Good directories still have authority and can make a huge difference to your search engine ranking. So if you are dreaming of becoming famous, making a lot of money from your online venture, looking at ways to increase your website rankings, then here is a list of places you can submit your website to. Remember they are quality directories and you will need more than a website to get accepted, what you need is a quality website. If you already have a quality site then head over to their sites and submit by all means. But if you have just started, I suggest you let your site age and then submit.

Fiverr Gig Ideas

Fiverr is a great place to buy and sell things. It’s like a mini-market place where you can buy/sell virtually anything although most of the things sold and bought are digital. I have been selling my services on Fiverr and this month became a second tier seller. I can’t say I make a huge amount of money but the time it takes for me to complete a gig is next to nothing. Its passive income. Here is a screen shot of the collections I made in a few days.

A big drawback with Fiverr is that it takes 20% of your earnings. So if you sell a gig for $5, you will get back $4. But then it provides you with a massive market place.

I have used Fiverr quite a lot and suits my purpose well. Most of the things that I buy and sell are SEO related and other promotional stuff including articles. There are some who really despise Fiverr. For instance, there are those who wish Fiverr was not around so that they can sell their services for more on places such freelancer.com or Scriptlance. Fiverr has changed all that, you can head over to Fiverr and buy articles for just a few dollars. It definitely has raised competition which is good for buyers. Although you have to watch out for quality, but if you look hard enough, you can great stuff on it.

So how do you make money on Fiverr? There are number of things you can do. Sit down and think hard about your qualities, your abilities, things you can do, things you are already doing and see if you can make money out of it. Do a little brain storming.

There are some who simply dress up in a banana costume and sing happy birthday. Can you do that, with a twist? I can’t, perhaps you can. Why not give that a shot? I remember seeing a Welshman singing “happy birthday” in a thong; it actually went down very well.

So if you are considering selling something on Fiverr, here are some Fiverr gig ideas;

Internet marketing is the new gold rush

"Ashley Qualls of Detroit", "Ashley Qualls" There are perhaps millions of people who go online every single day to look for opportunities on the internet. This is perhaps the modern day “Internet gold rush” that started at the turn of the century and amazingly there are no signs of slowing down.

As a matter of fact, most web analytics companies are saying that more and more people are trying to make a fortune on the internet today. For both the optimistic and the skeptical, it is now known that people from all walks of life are trying their hand at some form of Internet marketing. My personal feeling is that every single person has thought about it.

There are many wide stories of success on the internet. Many fake and many true. Have you head of the 17 year old girl named Ashley Qualls of Detroit, Michigan who was so fond of MySpace so much that she made a site sharing free MySpace templates. Her website became so famous that she is now a millionaire with an income of $70,000 a month through advertisement.  Why not go ahead and Google her name and see for yourself.
